Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo extended the county's mandatory mask order Aug. 26.
Instead of a set expiration date Aug. 26, the order is set to end 14 days after Gov. Greg Abbott declares an end to Texas' public health state of disaster.
The order states all customers over the age of 10 and employees must wear face coverings inside commercial businesses. Businesses that do not enforce the order can face up to a $1,000 fine; however, Hidalgo has said repeatedly that county's goal is to gain compliance through education, not fines.
