Owner Leslie Kuhn founded The Hat Chick three years ago, driven by a desire to introduce a carefully curated collection of hats to the Houston market.

How it happened

According to her biography on the store's website, she developed a love of hats from time spent in Colorado and Mexico and noticed that as a local Houston resident, the market lacked a store with a wide variety of offerings, custom designing and hat accessories under the same roof—so she decided to create one herself and The Hat Chick was born.

A few years later, Kuhn said she and her husband decided to open a storefront not far from their home in the Heights off of White Oak Drive.

"We've been in business for three years, and it has grown over time organically and to best serve our customers, we wanted to add a storefront and meet with customers during regular business hours," she said. "We're a family-run business, my husband and I own it, and we're involved in all the day-to-day activities. So, we are excited to be in the storefront and we appreciate every opportunity we have to work with people."

What they offerThe Hat Chick offers a wide variety of hats and accessories, including beaded hat bands, hat jewelery and tie pins. The hats offered include men's straw hats, women's felt hats and unisex Cowboy hats for men and women, with color options such as black, beige, red, turquoise blue and grey.

Kuhn said the store offers all levels of quality as well, from 1X to 100X, which signifies that the hat is made from 100% pure beaver felt.

Customers can also choose to do a custom design, with appointments encouraged. Branding is also available as is shipping throughout the United States.

Additional items sold in the store include jewelry, accessories, belts, bags and apparel. The Hat Chick also offers private event scheduling for weddings, fundraisers and corporate events.
