The details
The Community Artists' Collective is a nonprofit that works to provide artistic programs for children and adults in the Greater Houston area, including exhibitions, historical preservation and tourism, for nearly three decades.
The nonprofit was originally housed at the Bermac Arts building since 2014, where it served as the Collective's office, exhibition space and gift shop. However, the nonprofit had to vacate in August after it was announced that the building would be torn down, the nonprofit's spokesperson Terry John told Community Impact.
Now, the nonprofit has relocated to the Ion District in November, a dynamic hub established as a joint initiative between Rice University and the City of Houston.
"It's actually just across the street from where we were," John said. "It's really convenient because the Community Artists' Collective serves the Third Ward, as well as other parts of Houston, but it developed in the Third Ward—and it's very important that we stay close to the area."
John said the new location offers not only a lot more space for exhibitions, but also more light since it is on the first floor, providing visibility to the nonprofit and exhibitions.

"Women of the Earth" is the nonprofit's first exhibition of the year. The exhibition is a collaboration between three Houston artists: Kanika Blair, Andrea Venson and Audrianna Woods, artists whose work is deeply entwined with the natural world.
Venson navigates a captivating balance between structure and fluidity in her collages, Blair animates ethereal dreamscapes that transport viewers to otherworldly dimensions and Woods evocative paintings draw on ancestral energy and wisdom, according to the news release. Together they highlight the power of women working in harmony to create art that is bold and deeply rooted in the Earth.
An opening reception will be held Feb. 1 from 5-8 p.m. The exhibition will continue through March 22.
