Cypress Christian School celebrated the ribbon-cutting of its newest campus in Bridgeland on Aug. 28 following over a year of construction.

The big picture

Officials with Cypress Christian School, Howard Hughes, Forney Construction and current parents and alumni attended the ceremony Aug. 28.

"This journey spun into action six years ago when the CCS community voted to relocate its campus to Bridgeland," CCS board Chairman Sean Tackett said during the event. "However, the foundation for this relocation started to be laid out many years ago back in 1978 when Cypress Christian opened its doors for the first time."

Construction on the 130,000-square-foot campus started Feb. 23, 2024, and wrapped up ahead of the start of the school year for Cypress Christian School. However, CCS President Jeff Potts said the project meant more than just having additional campus space.

"This is more than a campus. It's a calling," Potts said. "This is sticks, wood, rocks, concrete, but it is just building what we are doing every day is much more important, and it is also building lives to represent our country and our faith."

Parents and students also shared excitement over the new campus officially opening in Bridgeland.

"I've been at the old campus since I was in kindergarten, so lots of memories at the old campus, but I'm excited to see what this holds for our school. I think it's a great opportunity," high school student Caitlyn Waller said.

The details

The new campus features a central pavilion area for students to gather during the school day, as well as over 50 stones placed across the 40-acre campus with Bible verses etched into them. The new facilities include:
  • 66,923 square feet of high school class space
  • 30,720 square feet of middle school class space
  • 32,697 square feet of elementary school class space
  • A 10,000-square-foot fine arts facility
  • A 38,500-square-foot athletics center
The new facility also houses separate football, baseball and softball fields alongside additional open green space and a general practice field.

In their words

"We need to stay laser focused on this mission to ensure that these fancy buildings are more than just a structure for our kids to for our kids to go to school," Tackett said. "We want this structure to become a campus where lives are changed for eternity today and for many, many years to come."

"We're celebrating the fact that these buildings have the CCS board, faculty and staff to support these students and ingrain them with grit to achieve their goals," said Tom Forney, owner and board chair of Forney Construction, which oversaw the project. "Each of these future graduates will have the opportunity to advance their opportunities, become contributors to community and eventually pay it forward to their children and others they influence along the way.

"It's really a phenomenal, really amazing. It's a blessing having been here," CCS Vice President of Academics Patrick Reents said. "A lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears have gone in this place, and we just, we're so thankful to God, number one, but all the families, all the donors who contributed to make this a reality, it's pretty amazing."
