Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee & Bakery, located at the Boardwalk at Towne Lake, will close its doors Nov. 30 after nearly 10 years serving the community, owner Melinda Bodukoglu said. The business is set to be replaced by coffee chain La La Land Cafe, according to an Oct. 27 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
In a nutshell
Bodukoglu told Community Impact she was in the process of transferring the store to a new owner when the shop's landlord "decided to go in a different direction." Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee & Bakery, a franchise of a Georgia-based company, is known for its partnership with fair wage coffee bean farms in Rwanda, as previously reported by Community Impact.
"While our hearts are heavy, we are incredibly grateful for all the love and support this community has shown us over the years," Bodukoglu said.
Bodukoglu said she and her husband will continue to sell scratch-made pastries in partnership with a handful of other local cafes, including:
- L3 Craft Coffee in Cypress and Fulshear
- Cronos Cafe & Collectables in Cypress
- Shouting Grounds Coffee Co. in New Caney
La La Land Kind Cafe is expected to move into the tenant space at 9935 Barker Cypress Road, Ste. 130, Cypress by February 2026, according to the TDLR filing. This will be the fourth La La Land location in the Greater Houston area, with three shops having opened in Houston's Inner Loop since 2022, according to Community Impact.
La La Land Kind Cafe has more than 20 locations across Texas, California and one in Tennessee, according to its website. The company opened its first cafe in 2019 with a focus on hiring and mentoring foster youth, per its website.
