Twin sisters Kendal and Kelby Norfleet started baking cheesecakes as a hobby in 2017 while in college. Taking orders over Instagram, the two perfected their recipes, never imagining they would one day own their own bakery.

Years later, the Norfleet sisters converted their hobby into a business with Kendal & Kelby Cheesecakes, located outside the Houston Premium Outlets.

The backstory

Kendal and Kelby Norfleet earned their degrees from the University of Miami and originally had different ideas for their career paths.

With a degree in economics and entrepreneurship, Kelby Norfleet said she looked for jobs in finance, marketing and economics-related fields, while Kendal Norfleet, with a degree in environmental sciences and biology, looked for a job as a park ranger.

Struggling to find jobs that aligned with their desired career paths, the two continued to bake cheesecakes and sell them via social media. They were operating a successful virtual bakery and decided they were destined to continue on the path they had fallen into.

“I wouldn't say anything inspired us to open a cheesecake bakery,” Kelby Norfleet said. “We kind of fell into this.”

Craving cheesecake?

Although Kendal and Kelby Norfleet began with a copycat recipe they found online in 2017, the two have adjusted their recipe with their own ingredients and technique to fit their cheesecake expectations.

Using fresh ingredients, Kendal & Kelby Cheesecakes bakes a variety of cheesecake products, including mini cheesecakes—the bakery's bread and butter—10-inch cheesecakes, freshly baked cookies, gluten-free cheesecakes and parfaits.

Each cake flavor is made with a unique crust and toppings. Kelby Norfleet said the strawberry cheesecake is the top seller and is made with a graham cracker cookie crust, homemade strawberry sauce, homemade whipped cream and fresh strawberries.

Kendal and Kelby Norfleet said during the holidays, customers can expect new seasonal flavors such as snickerdoodle and peppermint, as well as seasonal promotions that will be announced via social media.
