Nearly twice as many ballots were cast during the 2018 early voting period in Harris County compared to the previous record for a midterm election. By the end of the day Nov. 2, a total of 855,711 ballots had been cast. The previous record was set in 2010, when a total of 444,648 votes were cast in the early voting period. Total early votes in 2014 clocked in at 375,227, according to data from the Texas Secretary of State.
Voter turnout is also exceeding turnout in the 2012 presidential election, which came in at 766,526 in Harris County through the early voting period. Turnout in the 2016 presidential election in Harris County came in at 977,279 during early voting. The following polling locations hosted the most early voters:
  • Metropolitan Multi Service Center on W. Grey Street in Houston: 42,349
  • Juergen's Hall Community Center on Hempstead Road in Cypress: 34,900
  • Trini Mendenhall Community Center on Wirt Road in Houston: 33,520
  • Champion Forest Baptist Church on Strack Road in northwest Houston: 29,220
  • Freeman Branch Library on Diana Lane in Clear Lake: 23,730
About 2.3 million people are registered to vote in Harris County, up from 2.2 million in 2016 and just over 2 million in 2014. Polls will be open on Election Day, Nov. 6, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. On Election Day, voters must vote at the polling location based on precinct, which can be determined on the Harris County clerk's website.
