Crews working to widen Hwy. 290 are nearing the finish line, but construction is expected to be ongoing throughout the summer and fall on the portion between the Grand Parkway and Beltway 8, according to officials with the Texas Department of Transportation.
The final configuration of the $2.5 billion project entails five main lanes in each direction from Loop 610 to Hwy. 6 and four main lanes in each direction from Hwy. 6 to the Waller County line. A single, reversible high occupancy vehicle lane will run from Loop 610 to Mason Road.
New main lanes opened earlier this year both east and west of Cy-Fair. In Cy-Fair itself a project that includes the Beltway 8 interchange hit 100 percent completion this summer, and work between FM 529 and the Grand Parkway is ongoing, TxDOT officials said.
