Cy-Fair has many charities and nonprofits that need volunteers throughout the year. There are volunteer opportunities available for any level of time commitment. Here is a list of some local charities that are accepting volunteers.

Bethesda Lutheran Communities
Bethesda Lutheran Communities provides home care, day programs, employment and educational support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. BLC is asking volunteers to help with camps, conduct Bible classes, provide transportation, perform home visits to provide fellowship and devotions, and clean houses.

Cy-Fair Helping Hands
Founded in 2011, Cy-Fair Helping Hands helps homeless individuals become self-sufficient. The program seeks volunteers to participate on the homeless outreach team, deliver care packages to men and women living on the streets, work in the food pantry or serve as mentors to homeless high school students in Cy-Fair ISD. During the holidays, volunteers provide Thanksgiving meals to the community.

CFISDCFISD
CFISD is in need of volunteers for its Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) program. Individuals can volunteer in science labs, cultural arts programs, reading to students, performing clerical work, delivering materials from the Charlotte Davis Burns Science Resource Center to schools, working in school libraries, serving as a mentor, or participating in the annual Bus Buddies program at the beginning of the school year. Anyone who wishes to volunteer may complete

Cy-Fair Sports Association
Cy-Fair Sports Association hosts baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball and wrestling events for young athletes in Cy-Fair. Volunteers are needed for coaching, field maintenance, crowd control and registration assistance.

Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department
Before volunteers can join the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department, they must attend several Thursday night meetings, which begin at 7 p.m., at the appropriate station to learn about volunteer responsibilities. The captain will then assist volunteers in completing a cadet training program. Individuals can stop by one of the 12 fire stations to get more information. Uniform and firefighting clothing are provided to new members.

Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital
Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital is looking for volunteers to help out with several tasks in the physical therapy and ER departments, at the information desk or in the gift shop. Volunteers can fill out an application in the hospital’s gift shop, and are asked to serve for a minimum of four consecutive hours each week.

Cy-Hope
Cy-Hope needs volunteers at Hope Centers to assist with teaching English as a Second Language, helping students with homework or volunteering during family nights. Volunteers are also needed for special events and with Cy-Hope’s backpack and school adoption programs. Local businesses, churches or schools can also become Cy-Hope partners.

Grace Care Center of Cypress is a 24-hour health care and rehabilitation center with postacute services and spacious living areas. Volunteers of all ages are needed for visiting with residents on Thanksgiving and Christmas and to participate in activities throughout the year, such as bingo or reading to residents. Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that helps construct new, affordable homes around the community. The Harris County Public Library system
The Harris County Public Library system has an ongoing need for volunteers at each of its branches. After filling out an application, volunteers can work side-by-side with library staff to shelve materials, help with crafts, displays and book sales, and assist with special projects. Volunteers also serve as tutors for literacy and ESL classes.

Methodist Willowbrook Hospital provides year-round volunteer opportunities for adults age 18 and over and will begin accepting applications for its summer 2016 junior volunteer program, which runs from June to August, in January. Northwest Assistance Ministries
Northwest Assistance Ministries has multiple volunteer opportunities and also runs Treasures of the Heart, a resale shop that provides clothing, furniture and other donated household items to its clients free of charge. Volunteers in the shop perform a variety of duties, from sorting, pricing and displaying merchandise to tracking client and donor information. Other opportunities for volunteers within the ministry include building and maintenance, information technology and community outreach services.

Shield Bearer
Shield Bearer is a nonprofit that served over 15,000 people in northwest Houston in 2015 through professional counseling and prevention services. Shield Bearer brings healing to hurting hearts of human trafficking survivors, victims of crime and abuse, veterans and their families, struggling marriages, and individuals battling addiction, loss, depression, self-injury and more.  Volunteers are needed for marketing, events, donation pick-up, and administrative tasks.

YMCA
For 125 years, the YMCA has provided camps, sports competitions and events for families. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to assist with coaching sports teams, assisting with adaptive sports programs, helping in the community garden, motivating youth in building skills and relationships, participating in community events and serving on the board of directors and various committees.
