The season kicked off with the drama department hosting “A Season of Shakespeare” featuring family-friendly plays celebrating the life and works of William Shakespeare. Performances will continue through November.
Musical performances this season will feature concerts from the pop and concert choirs, jazz bands, the string orchestra and a series of visiting artists. A choral performance will take place in October and feature the concert choir and chamber choir. In November, Malcolm Harris will lead the student ensemble in an evening of jazz ranging from blues to contemporary jazz. December will provide audiences with music from around the world from the choral program. The month will also feature music originating from folk dances and classical ballet performed by the orchestra’s “Symphonic Dances.”
The college’s Bosque Gallery started the exhibition season in September with an evolving installation on display through Sept. 29 called “The Forest.” The work involves viewer participation and was imagined by Mari Omori, a Houston-based multimedia artist.
In October, “The Forest” will be followed by “Savage Bayou,” by Roslyn Dupré, a multidisciplinary artist. The visual arts season will conclude with the student art showcase in November, which will feature an awards ceremony and pieces available for purchase.
