SIM Houston, a group of local information technology industry leaders, presented the donation at its annual charity golf tournament April 11, officials said. The organization partnered with LSC-UP to help launch its AI lab last year.
“Strong partnerships like this allow our college to offer meaningful, future-forward experiences for our students,” LSC-UP President Matthew Dempsey said in the release. “We’re proud to continue working with SIM Houston to grow this program and connect our students to real-world innovation.”
The impact
The donation will fund new equipment at LSC-UP’s Engineering and Manufacturing Institute to give students hands-on experiences with the latest AI, data science and machine learning technology. College officials said students are developing skills now to help meet upcoming workforce demands.
“We’re incredibly proud that our community came together to raise funds that will accelerate the growth of the college’s cutting edge AI program—a transformative initiative preparing students with the skills, mindset and hands-on experience to lead in one of the most rapidly advancing and impactful fields of our time,” George Crawford, past-president of SIM Houston and golf tournament chair, said in a statement.
