With the start of the school year right around the corner, Cy-Fair Helping Hands will hold its third annual back to school event for Cy-Fair ISD students in need.

The nonprofit organization will distribute backpacks filled with school supplies Aug. 3. The purpose of the event will be to provide students with financial need an age-appropriate backpack and to end summer with a fun carnival, according to a news release.

The event will be held at Calvary Community Church, 7550 Cherry Park Drive, Houston.

What to expect

More than 30 community groups, such as churches, businesses and organizations, will provide entertainment, food, clothes and family resources.

In addition to fun activities, the event will also feature employees from the Cy-Fair Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and the CFISD Police Department, who will talk about their duties as first responders at the school. There will also be a CPR demonstration by someone dressed as Spiderman, according to a news release.

Patricia Hudson, director of community outreach at CFHH, said the organization will be working with CFISD’s community youth services specialists to ensure backpacks and school supplies go to CFISD students with financial need.

To receive a backpack, the student must be present. While there is no registration required, parents are asked to bring a photo ID with them to the event.
