Longwood Golf Club is set to reopen in late December following renovations that started in late April, according to Tim Sulak, general manager at Longwood Golf Club.

The backstory

The golf club, located at 13300 Longwood Trace, Cypress, temporarily closed earlier this year when the Harris County Flood Control District purchased 80 acres of the 240-acre property for flood mitigation efforts.

Community Impact previously reported this land would be used to hold stormwater runoff and widen Little Cypress Creek to improve drainage. More than 100 homes in the Longwood Village neighborhood flooded during Hurricane Harvey in 2017, and this project could reduce flooding risks for hundreds of Longwood Village homes as well as more than 3,000 homes in surrounding neighborhoods.

During the temporary closure, club memberships were transferred to Cypress Lakes Golf Club, which is about 5 miles away.

Sulak said the golf course will open exclusively for members for the first four to five months.

The golf course is scheduled to reopen Dec. 26, assuming there are no weather delays, Sulak said.
