Trader Joe’s could soon be opening in Cy-Fair’s Towne Lake neighborhood.

What we know

A “Specialty Grocer” project was registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in November. The filing states a 15,021-square-foot building would be constructed this year at 9715 Towne Lake Parkway, Cypress, for $2.5 million. Officials with Caldwell Companies, the developer behind Towne Lake, told Community Impact they could not confirm the tenant.

Trader Joe’s filed a “wine-only package store permit” per Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission requirements in early April for this same address. Recent documents filed with the Harris County Clerk’s Office also show plans for a Trader Joe’s location off Towne Lake Parkway.

Nakia Rohde, public relations manager for Trader Joe’s, said in an email she could not confirm an address or construction timeline for the store.

“We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year. While we have plans for a Trader Joe’s store in Cypress, I do not yet have a location or timeline to confirm,” Rohde said.

In case you missed it

Other TDLR filings and previous Community Impact reporting show:
  • Trader Joe’s opened last October in Sugar Land. The project entailed renovating a 15,467-square-foot building formerly home to Sprouts for $1 million.
  • Trader Joe’s is set to open a new store in Kingwood. The $900,000 project includes the interior buildout of an existing 17,180-square-foot building.
In a nutshell

Founded in 1967 in California, the national chain retailer is known for its branded products shoppers can’t find at other grocers, including:
  • Chili & Lime Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips
  • Mandarin Orange Chicken
  • Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
  • Peanut Butter Filled Pretzel Nuggets
  • Unexpected Cheddar
  • Soy Chorizo
The store carries fresh produce, snacks, meat and seafood, frozen items, baked goods, beer and wine, and flowers and plants.

This would be the first Cypress location for the brand; the closest locations are in Houston, The Woodlands and Sugar Land.
