Originally from Michoacan, Mexico, husband and wife Jorge Padilla and Vanessa Padilla opened La Michoacana Auténtica on Jones Road to share a part of their culture with the community in 2019.

After four years, the couple expanded the business with a second location in the Copperfield area due to the popularity of their ice cream.

“Everyone in Michoacan has ice cream businesses, and my wife Vanessa has been in the business for years,” Jorge Padilla said.

What's special about it?

Jorge Padilla said he left the automobile industry to start his own business with his wife’s expertise.

“I didn’t know anything about the business, but my wife taught me and honestly it surprises me how much people enjoy our ice cream and it makes me proud,” he said.

La Michoacana Auténtica offers homemade fruit paletas, or popsicles with fresh fruit and ingredients imported from Mexico; homemade ice cream; and waffle cones.

Jorge Padilla said La Michoacana Auténtica ice cream and waffle cones are made daily. Ice cream flavors take about 20 minutes to prepare and are required to freeze for 24 hours prior to serving.

With 38-40 ice cream flavors at a time depending on the season, La Michoacana Auténtica also offers lactose-free ice cream options, sherbet and sorbet.

Popular ice cream flavors include cookies and cream; banana pudding; cheesecake; mango with chile; arroz con leche or rice and milk; pecan; and Gansito made from the popular Mexican snack, an artificially flavored strawberry and cream-filled cake with chocolate-flavored coating.

“I tell people it's like a Mexican twinkie but 10 times better,” Jorge Padilla said.
