When a storefront next to their family church became available, sisters Angela Frierson and Melissa Kretzschmar decided to do something they had always wanted to do: open their own boutique with country-western wear for women. They opened White Rock Country Rags & Doodads in November 2011 in honor of their favorite spot to visit as children—White Rock Marina in Trinity, Texas. Boots, belts, tunic dresses, graphic T-shirts, jeans, bedazzled baseball caps, jewelry, and other unique accessories and gifts for women are in stock. “When rodeo time comes around, we are the go-to place,” Frierson said. “And we try to stay true to that throughout the year.” Kretzschmar said they want the store to offer women what Cavender’s Boot City offers men: something for every age, size and price range. “Our oldest customer is 86, and our youngest is probably 13 or 14, so moms and daughters can share clothes,” Frierson said. Next spring, the two said they plan to expand the store to offer a collection of vintage wedding dresses as well as hair and makeup stations for bridesmaids and brides. Divine Fellowship Church, the family chapel next door, serves as a venue for intimate weddings and vow renewal ceremonies. With a mother who founded the church and a father retired from the Jersey Village Police Department, Frierson and Kretzschmar have been a part of the Cy-Fair community for most of their lives. Now, the business owners, who are also graduates of Cy-Fair High School, said they do what they can to give back. Every other Saturday, the sisters host a market day at the shop for local artisans, where they collect pet food donations for animal rescues in the area. “It’s not about success or money,” Frierson said. “We do anything we can to help people along the way.”
