The Jersey Village City Council voted Sept. 15 to move forward with design services for a city pool ahead of the Nov. 4 bond election, which includes a $6.5 million bond proposition to fund the pool project.

At a glance

The City of Jersey Village will begin its initial phase of the project, including conceptual design and public feedback, after receiving council approval at the September regular meeting, according to a Sept. 18 newsletter from the city. The city council authorized an agreement with Brandstetter Carroll, Inc. to draft a pool design, and the city will spend $12,150 to cover design work through October.

The city will cancel the contract if the pool bond fails in November, according to the newsletter.

In case you missed it

The $6.5 million pool bond is one of three bond propositions on the Nov. 4 ballot for Jersey Village residents. Voters will also decide on a $21.16 million bond proposition for the city campus project and a $20 million bond proposition for utility infrastructure improvements.

The city had initially issued certificates of obligation for all three projects in May, but residents soon petitioned that the bonds require voter approval, Community Impact previously reported. Residents voted down a $10.1 million pool bond last November.

The current $6.5 million proposition would fund construction of the pool and a new pump house, according to city officials.

The city council approved an application for a $90,000 grant from the Houston-Galveston Area Council's Solid Waste Management Program, which, if awarded, would help the city purchase and install cameras to deter illegal dumping.

Council also voted to dissolve the Village Center Local Government Cooperation and terminate Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 2, which were originally created as part of a former mixed-use development plan.

The next regular city council meeting is scheduled for Oct. 20 in the Civic Center Auditorium, located at 16327 Lakeview Drive in Jersey Village.
