In a nutshell
According to a Sept. 8 presentation to the board of trustees, the committee will assess the district’s security, transportation, instructional technology and infrastructure to build a recommendation for the board. The committee is expected to finalize its recommendation by early February, CFISD Chief of Staff Teresa Hull said during the presentation.
As of Sept. 8, Hull said the committee consists of:
- 25 parents
- 18 community members
- Six principals
- Six classroom teachers
- Four students
- Three district administrators
Goals for the committee include:
- Exercise fiscal responsibility
- Minimize boundary changes to the extent possible
- Ensure comparable, equitable facilities across the district
- Keep neighborhoods and communities together to the extent possible
- Consider transportation impact with any potential boundary changes
- Consider the age and condition of each facility
Hull said one of the first objectives for the committee will be looking at current district enrollment and campus capacities to determine potential short-term solutions, such as slight modifications to attendance boundaries, that could alleviate the need for new facilities.
“We’re not looking at a plan of just doing massive shifts in boundaries across the district,” Hull said. “We understand and appreciate how much communities love their schools and want to stay a part of that, and we’re going to try to protect that to the extent possible."
The long range planning committee will hold its first meeting Sept. 29 and present monthly updates at board meetings.
