Three positions on the Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees are up for election this November. Here’s what you need to know to enter the race.

Some context

Seven trustees sit on the CFISD board, each serving a term of four years at a time. Newly elected trustees will serve on the board through 2029. Positions up for election this year include:
  • Position 5, held by Natalie Blasingame, vice president of the board
  • Position 6, held by Scott Henry, president of the board
  • Position 7, held by Lucas Scanlon
Blasingame, Henry and Scanlon are nearing the end of their first terms and have not announced whether they will run for re-election as of press time.

According to the district’s operating procedures, trustees are responsible for adopting annual budgets, establishing student performance measures, creating hiring standards, evaluating superintendent performance and other forms of policymaking.

How it works

The application window for those interested in running in the November election will open July 19. Prospective candidates must file a notarized application with the Director of General Administration’s office by Aug. 18 for a place on the ballot. Write-in candidates have until Aug. 22 to submit their applications.

Candidates may submit their application to General Administration Director Scott Tucker by mail, email or in person during business hours. Find more details here.

Candidates must also submit a campaign treasurer appointment before announcing their candidacy, fundraising or spending money on a campaign. The form is mandatory regardless of intention to fundraise.
