Jim McIngvale, known as Mattress Mack, announced during a July 15 Cy-Fair Chamber luncheon that Gallery Furniture is donating mattresses to people affected by the recent Central Texas floods.

The details

In an effort to promote community support during natural disasters, McIngvale visited the Cy-Fair community and announced Gallery Furniture’s initiative to aid those impacted during the Central Texas floods.

“Right now, if you come out to Gallery Furniture, buy a Tempur-Pedic mattress, semipedia mattress, or a fabulous MacZcliner, when you buy that mattress, we're going to give one free to people affected by the horrible floods in the Hill Country,” he said.

In addition to donating mattresses, Gallery Furniture is collecting and donating food and other essential supplies.

Quote of note

“If we try to rely only on our traditional mental health system to help these people suffering from trauma, we will never meet the need after a tragedy like the Hill Country,” McIngvale said. “So, who does the healing? We do. Each one of us with our presence, our listening ears, our acts of kindness. Healing comes from connection, not just therapy. Yes, therapy helps, but Dr. Bruce Perry says, it's really the tiny, consistent moments that heal our brains after trauma. It's the hug from a neighbor, the hot meal dropped off at the door, the friend who sends a text just to say, ‘I'm thinking of you’.”

In case you missed it

Founded over 40 years ago, Gallery Furniture began with only $3,500, and has grown to a multi-million dollar enterprise, McIngvale said.

“We have been successful because we're in a great community and because we have great people that work there, great team members, and we have great customers,” McIngvale said. “And at the end of the day, for all of us in business, we have to daily ask ourselves, 'what have I done today for a customer that's personal, significant and unexpected?'”

With his success, McIngvale has provided supplies and monetary donations for the community during several natural disasters, including Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and Winter Storm Uri in 2021.
