The ninth location of Clutch City Cluckers, a Houston-based hot chicken food truck, will open at 25950 Hwy. 290 in Cypress with a grand opening celebration during Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29.

To celebrate, the truck will host a ribbon-cutting on May 27 from 11-3 a.m., and the first 500 guests in line will each get one free tender sandwich. The opening event will also feature a Spice Challenge with Houston Hip-Hop Radio Boss Kiotti Brown starting at 11 a.m. where guests can compete to see who can eat the spiciest tender. A live DJ will be on hand to entertain patrons from 7-10 p.m.

Patrons who purchase a meal on May 27 will receive a raffle ticket, which enters them in a giveaway for gift cards to the truck totaling $1,500 in increments of $500, $250 and several $100 gift cards.

The new truck will serve hot chicken sandwiches, cheese-topped hot chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, loaded fries and cauliflower tenders along with new menu items, including shrimp tacos.

Clutch City Cluckers was founded by Ahmad Kilani, a native of Irbid, Jordan, who immigrated to the U.S. in 2015 to continue his education and obtain a master's degree. While attending school full-time, Kilani also worked at Abu Omar Halal, Houston’s first Halal food truck, inspiring him to build a career in the food industry.

The food truck was part of Kilani’s mission to give back to Houston, the city that gave his food industry career a launching pad. Hence, the “Clutch City” part of the name is inspired by the nickname given to the Houston Rockets after winning both the 1994 and 1995 NBA championships. The logo depicts a chicken on a rocket, paying homage to his adopted hometown.

Hours of operation will be Sun.-Thu. 11 a.m.-2 a.m. and Fri.-Sat. 11-3 a.m. For more information visit www.clutchcitycluckers.com.
