Conroe City Council discussed awarding a project for traffic signals and intersection improvements on South Loop 336.

During a Feb. 9 workshop, the engineering department recommended Third Coast Services with the best value bid of $237,644.

The project entails improvements at three intersections on Loop 336: River Pointe Drive and Crescent Campus Boulevard; Grand Lake Drive and Urban Avenue; and Medical Center Boulevard and Town Park Drive, according to Director of Capital Projects and Transportation Thomas Woolley. The three intersections have been functioning irregularly due to issues, such as not having a left turn lane, so the project aims to help mobility in the area, Woolley said.

The project includes restriping, adding left-turn lanes, and adding flashing arrows to the River Pointe Drive and Crescent Campus Boulevard intersection and Grand Lake Drive and Urban Avenue intersection. At River Pointe Drive and Crescent Campus Boulevard, a new highway traffic signal will be installed in addition to sign upgrades and a left turn lane, according to city information.

The city received three bids Jan. 13 and will vote on awarding the project at its Feb. 10 meeting.
