Montgomery County Food Bank announced Jim Carman, president of the Houston Region for Howard Hughes, as the new chairman of its board of directors, according to a July 8 news release.

Carman succeeds outgoing chairman Jim Wolf, who led the board during a period of expansion and operational growth. Other departing members include Kathy Pepper, Michael Hancock and Curtis Null.

“I’m deeply grateful to my fellow directors, the Food Bank’s leadership and staff, and the countless volunteers and partners whose dedication powers this organization,” Carman said via the release. “Together, we will build on their legacy of compassion and collaboration to ensure every neighbor has reliable access to nourishing food and a brighter future.”

According to the news release, the food bank also welcomed four new board members:
  • Brian Albert, a partner at Kean Miller LLP, who has legal and real estate expertise, and has served with several Montgomery County nonprofits
  • Scott Darling, recently retired from ExxonMobil, with experience in energy finance, planning, and risk management
  • Kristen Shults, senior vice president and CFO at Western Midstream, who has over 16 years of experience in accounting, finance, and public company leadership
  • Justine Smith, executive vice president of commercial at Chevron Phillips Chemical, with more than 30 years of global leadership in the chemical industry
Kristine Marlow, Montgomery County Food Bank’s president and CEO, thanked departing members, including Wolf, for their service.


“Under [Wolf’s] guidance, the Food Bank launched a transformative facility expansion that will enable us to make a greater difference in our community,” Marlow said via the release. “We move forward energized by the fresh perspectives and leadership of our newly appointed directors.”

The food bank serves Montgomery County through a network of over 90 partners, including schools and nonprofits, distributing donated and surplus food to families in need.
