Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity, or Habitat MCTX, will host a June 25 workshop to show families how they can apply for the nonprofit's affordable housing and repair programs. The program will be hosted at the Montgomery County Central Library in Conroe.

The home ownership programs require families to partner with Habitat for up to 350 hours of "sweat equity" of working on their own homes, other Habitat homes, or at the Habitat ReStore, a donation center and store selling new and gently used furniture.

Eligibility requirements to apply for the homeownership program include:

  • Agree to partner with Habitat MCTX

  • Meet minimum income of $23,000

  • Proof of continuous employment for 12 (twelve) months

  • Clear required background check

  • Complete sweat equity of 350 hours in lieu of down payment

The home-repair program allows for repairs to issues such as leaky roofs and broken windows, as well as weatherization for extreme weather. Requirements include:

  • Agree to partner with Habitat MCTX

  • Reside in Montgomery County, Texas

  • Proof of minimum two years of home ownership

  • Must meet income requirements for the program.
