Funds that were initially thought to be going toward The Treehouse Center, a residential shelter for girls in foster care, have not been awarded to the entity, according to Jeffery Johnson, special projects coordinator for Montgomery County Commissioner Precinct 1. Johnson said in an email that a letter was sent to the nonprofit regarding the grant not being awarded.

The Treehouse Center, a residential shelter for girls in foster care, has received official confirmation from Montgomery County Community Development staff about a grant funding over $617,000 to the nonprofit organization, according to a June 24 news release from Taylorized PR. The center, which is located in a residential home in a neighborhood near River Plantation in Conroe, houses young girls who are in Child Protective Services custody who may otherwise be forced to sleep in CPS offices, which are not equipped to handle long-term placement of children.
The funds will be used for renovations and upgrades to double the current capacity of 25 young girls to allow up to 50 girls between the ages and 14 to reside at the residential shelter for up to two years, according to the news release. Upgrades include five or six additional bedrooms with four bathrooms, a new rood, a tankless water heater, updated security cameras in all common areas, an updated irrigation system to reduce the flooding in entry areas, three new vans and retreading of the stairs.
The Treehouse Center was established 11 years ago, and no updates or renovations have ever been done.
