Montgomery County Food Bank, a nonprofit hunger-relief organization, announced in a March 16 news release that Amazon donated $100,000 to help the food bank continue serving meals to those who lack access in Montgomery County.
The food bank said in the release that the donation came at a time when demand for food assistance is high due to inflation and supply chain issues. Food banks throughout the country have faced problems with high demand and rising costs.
“Amazon’s generous donation has answered the call at a critical time when so many of our neighbors are struggling to put food on the table,” said Kristine Marlow, president and CEO of the food bank, in the release. “This partnership allows us to continue closing the gap on food insecurity by investing in and expanding our programs to ensure everyone has access to the nutritious food they need to thrive.”
The food bank served over 9.6 million meals in Montgomery County in 2021, or an average of 55,800 individuals served each month, according to the release.
The donation will aid the food bank's programs, which include school and senior citizen distributions, mobile markets and nutrition education, according to the release.
The Montgomery County Food bank is located at 1 Food For Life Way, Conroe, and can be reached at 936-271-8800.
