Sam Houston State University’s Jack Staggs Counseling Clinic is celebrating its 20th anniversary, according to a Sept. 5 news release. The clinic, which also has a location serving Conroe and The Woodlands area, first opened its Huntsville location in September 2004.

“Our counselors-in-training are in that advanced stage where they’re ready to see real clients, they’re going to be able to help you and they’re being closely supervised,” Felicia Mirghassemi, a licensed professional counselor and assistant professor in the Department of Counselor Education, said via news release.

The clinic was named after retired Professor Emeritus Jack Staggs, who eventually created a counselor education program. The clinic offers adolescent, couple, family, group and individual counseling as well as play and sand tray therapy. The services are offered for free to SHSU students, faculty, staff and community members, with no insurance check required, according to the news release.
