"Veterans are special people who have given extreme sacrifices to support and defend our great country,” said Kristine Marlow, president and CEO of the Montgomery County Food Bank and an Air Force veteran, in the release. “A veteran’s instinct is to serve others before self. This makes it difficult to ask for help when it’s needed. But our veteran community should know that Montgomery County Food Bank stands behind them, and when help is needed, we are here to extend a helping hand.”
The mobile market is held the second Tuesday of each month from 3:30-6 p.m. at the Conroe VA or as supplies last, according to the release. The market is held in partnership with Combined Arms, a nonprofit organization supporting veterans, and provides food assistance as well as connections to mental wellness support, nutrition support and financial resources. However, according to the release, the market is open to anyone needing food assistance, regardless of military status.
According to the release from the Montgomery County Food Bank, there are about 30,000 veterans in Montgomery County—as stated by the U.S. Census Bureau—of which 15.6% are unemployed.
The Nov. 8 market will be held in honor of local Montgomery County veteran Norma Stuart Bomer, who joined the 353rd Army Air Force Base unit in 1944 at age 14, according to the release. Bomer is a resident of The Woodlands.
