Montgomery County commissioners unanimously voted Aug. 14 to approve a proposed tax rate of $0.3779 per $100 valuation for fiscal year 2025-26.

What you need to know

The approved proposed tax rate of $0.3779 per $100 valuation is a slight decrease from the FY 2024-25 tax rate of $0.3790 per $100 valuation, while the no-new-revenue tax rate is $0.3693. The county saw a tax rate increase in FY 2024-25 for the first time in five years, as previously reported.

County officials said the proposed rate is intended to support increased needs in law enforcement, roads and county services as the population in the county continues to grow.

The $0.3779 per $100 valuation generates a total revenue of $291.3 million, Budget Officer Amanda Carter said.

What’s next

The next step in the process includes public notice and hearing procedures before commissioners can take final action. A public hearing and vote on the tax rate will be held Sept. 5 at the Alan B. Sadler building at 501 N. Thompson St. in Conroe, Carter said.
