The details
The museum features two historic homes: the Grogan-Cochran House, which is the main museum and houses four galleries and the gift shop; and a second house from Conroe Oil Field, which is a Sears Home Kit that was popular in the 1930s, Hereford said. The Grogan-Cochran House is 100 years old, built in 1924 in Conroe, she said.
By the numbers
In 2024, Hereford said the museum had 3,780 visitors from 36 states and 15 countries.

The museum has exhibits dedicated to Black History Month including the primary exhibit filled with magazines featuring the Obamas, Diane Carroll, Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, Tina Turner, Prince, Oprah and Black Barbies from the toy's Inspiring Women series. The second exhibit, called The Faces of Tamina, showcases a series of photographs and stories from the book "The Ground on Which I Stand: Tamina, a Freedmen's Town."
