The city of Conroe will move forward with a $1.19 million project to expand the Conroe Police Department’s parking lot after council approved awarding the bid to Millennium Project Solutions at its Oct. 24 meeting.

In a nutshell

The majority of the project will be funded from the city’s capital improvement program budget, with a shortfall of $95,900 set to be covered by project savings from another budget, Tipton said.

Tipton said the parking lot expansion went through about three different concepts, which included a parking garage concept at a cost of around $4 million, Interim Police Chief Lee Tipton said during the Oct. 23 workshop meeting.

“We were able to drastically reduce it, and through negotiations with Millennium, even reduce it more,” Tipton said.

Tipton said the police department is at capacity with vehicles.

“This [project] will help extend that [capacity],” Tipton said.
