During its Dec. 12 meeting, Montgomery City Council approved a resolution for the city to join the Houston-Galveston Area Council.
In a nutshell
The H-GAC is a regional organization that involves local governments considering issues and cooperating in solving regional problems, according to its website. Its service region includes 13 counties:
- Austin
- Brazoria
- Chambers
- Colorado
- Fort Bend
- Galveston
- Harris
- Liberty
- Matagorda
- Montgomery
- Walker
- Waller
- Wharton
City Administrator Gary Palmer said it is $200 a year for the city to join.
Quote of note
“It’s about forming relationships with similar-minded cities who have similar problems that we do and establishing a web there,” Mayor Byron Sanford said during the meeting. “So whoever represents the city from whatever capacity, it’s just a matter of keeping our name out there and staying prominent.”
Other council actions
- City Council approved an ordinance that repeals the juvenile curfew within city limits. The repeal is in response to House Bill 1819, which prohibits cities from enforcing curfew ordinances unless in times of emergency management. The city of Conroe similarly repealed its juvenile curfew ordinance in September.
