Montgomery County commissioners voted on Nov. 5 to approve a name for the new South Montgomery County Library and Community Center, which is set to open in 2025.

What you need to know

Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack presented the resolution to rename the South Montgomery County Library to the "Heroes of Montgomery County Library.” The South County Community Center will be similarly renamed ‘Heroes Community Center.’

Noack said the name is meant to honor veterans and law enforcement in the community and across the state.

Quote of note

“This will honor those who demonstrate courage, commitment and service for our community,” Noack said. “Including all first responders, veterans and everyday people who make a positive impact.”

The background

The $16.5 million project came about through a land swap agreement between the county and Howard Hughes for the Grogan's Mill Village Center. Howard Hughes agreed to construct the new facility at the village center in exchange for ownership of the existing South Montgomery County library property at 2101 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands.

According to prior Community Impact reporting, the project is set to complete construction in 2025.
