Willis ISD announced in an Aug. 6 news release that it has launched a webpage to provide information and documentation about the ongoing water capacity issue at its new middle school, Calfee Middle School, scheduled to open Aug. 13. As of Aug. 6, water service to the school was still cut off.

According to the WISD news release, the district launched the page "in light of ongoing questions and community interest ... to provide access to documentation related to the water issue at our new middle school."

The gist

The webpage includes records downloadable by the public, such as reports, correspondence and updates pertaining to the water capacity issue between the district and the city of Conroe.

In the release, the district stated it is "actively reviewing and organizing all records to ensure that the documents released are accurate, complete, and suitable for public access," noting it will be updated as new information becomes available.

The district will hold a special meeting at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 8 to discuss legal counsel, according to the release.

How we got here

Days before its scheduled Aug. 13 opening, the city of Conroe cut off water service to the new middle school, citing ongoing issues with a development agreement between the city and the school district, as previously reported.

What's next

Conroe City Council is expected to meet Aug. 9 to deliberate on providing city services such as water to the middle school, which is located outside the city limits, as reported.

What they're saying

“We understand the importance of building trust through transparency,” Willis ISD Superintendent Kimberley James said. “This is not just about providing documents—it’s about ensuring our community has confidence in how we operate and in the decisions we make.”
