Conroe ISD and the superintendent search firm Texans for Excellence in Education held their second community forum July 9 to gather feedback on the district’s superintendent search.

Current situation

Ted Landry is acting superintendent after Superintendent Curtis Null resigned effective June 1, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

Conroe ISD and TEE are hosting five community forums in various locations in the Conroe area from July 8 to July 14.

What to know

At the July 9 forum, TEE President John Petree went over the timeline for the search process, with key dates including:
  • June 18: Superintendent position posted
  • June, July and August: Community engagement and input
  • July 18: Superintendent application deadline
  • August: Interviews and vote to name the lone finalist
  • September: Vote to hire and begin the position
Petree also provided a preliminary candidate profile developed by the CISD board of trustees that outlined some qualifications and characteristics the board will consider while choosing a candidate, including:
  • Parent-first approach
  • Responsive to constituents
  • Respects elected governance
  • Focus on teacher quality
  • Strict accountability champion
  • Local control advocate
After the final community forum July 14, TEE will condense the public’s feedback into a report to be sent to the trustees, who will determine whether to make adjustments to the candidate profile, Petree said. The board will also have access to the results of CISD’s community survey, which Petree said had approximately 5,000 responses as of July 8.
