Conroe ISD unanimously approved its Superintendent Search Plan at its meeting June 17, marking the official launch of the search process for the district’s new superintendent, according to a June 18 news release.

“The board is looking forward to a transparent and thorough process as we begin the search for the most highly qualified individual to serve our students, staff and community,” school board First Vice President Tiffany Baumann Nelson said in the release.

Current situation

Superintendent Curtis Null is leaving the district to take the superintendent post in Lake Travis ISD, and Ted Landry was named interim superintendent May 19, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

The launch of the search process for the open CISD superintendent role allows the superintendent search firm, Texans for Excellence in Education, to start recruiting applicants.

The timeline

Following initial input from all seven trustees and senior district administrators, a preliminary candidate profile and search timeline was established. According to a CISD superintendent search presentation, notable dates include:
  • Superintendent position posted June 18
  • Community engagement and input conducted through June, July and August
  • Deadline to apply for superintendent position July 18 at 5 p.m.
  • Interviews and vote to name the lone finalist in August
  • Vote to hire and begin position in September
TEE will conduct four in-person community forums and distribute surveys to students, families, staff and community members. Information about these engagement opportunities will be shared with the public later this month, according to the release.

Quote of note

“We are confident that this comprehensive and community-informed process will yield exceptional candidates for the board to consider,” TEE President John Petree said. “This is an exciting time for CISD, and we are honored to support the district in identifying its next great leader.”
