Conroe ISD trustees were introduced to the proposed rezoning process for two of the district's new elementary schools at the board's Sept. 17 meeting.

What to know

Assistant Superintendent Chris McCord, along with the Attendance Boundary Committee, will review attendance boundaries in preparation for the openings of Mittie J. Campbell Elementary School and W. Robert Eissler Elementary School in August 2025. Campbell Elementary School will be in the feeder areas for Oak Ridge and Caney Creek high schools, and Eissler Elementary School will be in The Woodlands High School feeder.

Eissler Elementary School will be located at 14000 Old Conroe Road, where it will have 950 students in its two-story building. McCord also informed the board about a proposed road project for Old Conroe Road from South Loop 336 and FM 1488 in the area, which includes:
  • Widening Sgt. Ed Holcomb Boulevard and Old Conroe Road to four 12-foot-wide travel lanes, two in each direction
  • A 14-foot-wide raised median
  • A 10-foot-wide shared-use path on the east side
  • Curb-and-gutter drainage
  • Intermittent 6-foot-wide sidewalks
Parents with children who will be affected by the new schools and boundaries will receive a letter soon, McCord said in the meeting.

Digging deeper

Through the committee, the district will have the following objectives:
  • Populate Eissler and Campbell elementary schools while preserving some capacity for future growth
  • Potentially provide overcrowding relief to elementary and intermediate campuses in The Woodlands feeder zone
  • Potentially provide overcrowding relief to Suchma and Oak Ridge elementary schools and Vogel Intermediate School
  • Proactively address anticipated growth and capacity issues at San Jacinto Elementary School
What they’re saying

“We take this very seriously. We committed to provide the quality at every school [and] we plan to have the recommendations to you on the third Tuesday of January,” McCord said.

“There’s a lot of anxiety out there about what this new school will mean, what rezoning will mean, and I just want to make sure I express that concern for parents with that anxiety and just urge you to continue doing the great job that you have done in the past about being very transparent about what is going on,” trustee Stacey Chase said.

What’s next

The committee will review zoning scenarios before presenting its proposals to the board likely in January. The board is responsible for the final decision on the attendance boundaries.
