According to a release, Phillips served in law enforcement for 28 years with the last three years being served with MISD. Phillips will carry out his responsibilities until Aug. 31.
“Serving as chief of Montgomery ISD’s Police Department has been the highlight of my career in law enforcement. I am grateful to the MISD board of trustees and Dr. Morrison for allowing me to serve in this important role. The dedicated men and women of the MISD Police Department demonstrate every day how school district police officers can build lasting relationships and help students thrive in a safe learning environment. It has been an honor to serve alongside them, and I know they will continue to serve our schools and community well," Phillips said in the release.
During a June 27 school board meeting, Rickey Doerre was named as the new district police chief. According to a June 28 release, Doerre has served in law enforcement for 33 years, serving with the city of Tomball, Tomball ISD and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. Doerre will begin his new role with the district July 10 to work alongside Phillips.
Doerre will take over as district chief of police Aug. 31.
