According to the agenda, the city has seen growth in its sports programs with over 1,000 participants in the Conroe United youth soccer program. The city also offers other sport programs such as youth flag football, youth basketball, youth track and field, youth tennis, adult softball, and pickleball.
Despite the many programs, according to the agenda, there is only one full-time staff member that runs every program.
“An additional full-time position to assist with sports would allow the Parks and Recreation Department to handle the current number of participants, be ready for future growth and provide quality customer service,” Parks and Recreation Director Mike Riggens noted in meeting documentation.
This item is set to be discussed Feb. 8 during a workshop meeting.
