“We live in a beautiful community that offers so many things, but we were missing art,” she said in the release. “This helped fuel my desire to open a dance studio and bring this missing piece to our community.”
Woodforest Dance Co. will feature two studios with classes for ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical and drill team, among others. Hip hop and a stretch class will be available for adults, according to the release, and children ages 18 months to 2 years old can be introduced to movement, rhythm and dance concepts in a "Tiptoe Tots" class the studio will offer.
Students will participate in holiday performances this fall and a recital in May as well as dance competitions and conferences, Cooksey said. The business will also offer a dance camp July 18-20 at the Church at Woodforest ahead of its opening.
“This is a business on paper, but for me, it’s my purpose,” Cooksey said. “This is the moment in time where I get to share my knowledge in the art of dance, build confidence in the youth of our community and capture the heart of a new generation."
