The Mighty Oaks Foundation is a faith-based service organization that helps veterans, active duty and first responders struggling with post traumatic stress disorder. The foundation will have its first building in 11 years, according to a Sept. 6 news release.

The groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 12 included speeches from state Rep. Steve Toth, R-The Woodlands; political candidate Morgan Luttrell; and founder and President Chad Robichaux. Once the speeches concluded, attendees gathered outside for the groundbreaking to occur. Once the initial groundbreaking concluded, Robichaux invited staff, veterans, active military and first responders an opportunity to also break ground.

Robichaux is a former Marine and pro mixed martial arts champion. During the ceremony he spoke about his personal battle with PTSD and how it nearly resulted in the loss of his own life. He shared the reason behind founding the organization in 2011, including his struggles after returning home in 2007 from his last deployment.

“My anxiety, depression [became] a real battle over the next three years,” Robichaux said. “To take my own life ... a very real attempt because I had become so hopeless, so frustrated.”

The headquarters will be 12,151 square feet on 4.2 acres of land and consist of a two-story building. The headquarters is projected to open in April, according to the release.

“There’s a lot of great places we could have picked,” Robichaux said. “[There] was no place more appropriate for the national headquarters of Mighty Oaks than right here back in Texas.”
