As part of the Texas Department of Transportation's ongoing "Big 6" construction project, Bryan-College Station drivers should expect multiple overnight lane and ramp closures along Hwy. 6 during the week of May 11.
The major highway improvement project began December 2025.
What you need to know
Drivers should plan for overnight closures, affecting northbound main lanes, entrance ramps and frontage roads through May 18.
- May 11-13: full northbound closures, 8:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
- Closed: northbound Hwy. 6 main lanes between Southwest Parkway/Raintree Drive and Briarcrest Drive
- All traffic will exit at Harvey Road and reenter south of Briarcrest Drive.
- Northbound entry ramps south of Southwest Parkway/Raintree Drive, Harvey Road and University Drive close beginning at 7:30 p.m.
- Closed: northbound Hwy. 6 main lanes between Southwest Parkway/Raintree Drive and Briarcrest Drive
- May 12: ramp closure, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
- The northbound Texas Avenue ramp will be closed for bridge column concrete placement.
- Drivers may reenter by turning left at Southwest Parkway.
- May 14: Multiple single-lane closures, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
- Northbound frontage road between Barron and Rock Prairie roads, including the Rock Prairie exit ramp.
- Closed for sawcutting
- Southbound frontage road between Ponderosa Drive and Rock Prairie Road, including Rock Prairie exit ramp and turnaround lane
- Closed for traffic barrier installation
- Southbound right lane at Harvey Road, including southbound entry ramp north of Harvey Road and the turnaround lane
- Reduced to one lane to relocate an information systems pole
- Northbound frontage road between Southwest Parkway/Raintree Drive and Horse Haven Lane
- Reduced to one left-hand lane to set a traffic barrier
- Northbound frontage road between Barron and Rock Prairie roads, including the Rock Prairie exit ramp.
- May 15-18: weekend frontage road closure, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
- Full closure, weather permitting
- Northbound Hwy. 6 frontage road south of Rock Prairie Road
- Two-way traffic will be allowed for local access
- Also closed: south-to-north U-turn
- Drivers entering Hwy. 6 north from Barron Road will have to make a U-turn at William D. Fitch Parkway.
- The Rock Prairie Road exit ramp will be open but may close intermittently.
