‘Big 6’ construction continues in Bryan-College Station, what to expect March 16-19

Road work continues as the Texas Department of Transportation carries on with its “Big 6” project in Brazos County.

TxDOT began the Hwy. 6 widening project through Bryan-College Station in December, which officials hope will relieve congestion and improve mobility for drivers. Take a look at the project overview video here.

What you need to know

For the St. Patrick’s Day week, TxDOT will be working primarily along Harvey Mitchell Parkway and Texas Avenue. Some of the key closures include:

• March 16: Two overnight single-lane closures and a turn lane closure, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • The right lane along the frontage road going north between Rock Prairie Road and Harvey Mitchell Parkway will be closed.
  • The Rock Prairie Road left-turn lane will also be closed.
• March 17: One-off ramp closure, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • Heading north on Hwy. 6, the Texas Avenue exit ramp will be closed. Drivers can make their way to Texas Avenue by exiting at Southwest Parkway then turning left.
• March 18: A full closure and a single-lane closure, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • Crews will be closing off the southbound frontage road between Harvey Mitchell Parkway and Texas Avenue to install drainage structures at the Texas Avenue intersection.
  • The Texas Avenue and Deacon Drive exit will also be closed. Pleasant Forest residents can get home through Mile Drive on the frontage road going south.
  • The right lane on William J. Bryan Parkway going north will be closed, as will the on-ramp just south of William J. Bryan Parkway. Drivers will be able to reenter south of Old Reliance Road.
• March 19: Full closure, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • To continue installing drainage structures at the Texas Avenue intersection, the southbound frontage road will not be accessible from Harvey Mitchell Parkway to Texas Avenue.
  • The southbound Texas Avenue and Deacon Drive off-ramp will also be closed. Drivers will be directed to turn right on Harvey Mitchell Parkway to get to Texas Avenue. Pleasant Forest residents can get home through Mile Drive on the frontage road going south.
