Bryan ISD's board of trustees approved several construction and renovation contracts at its April 20 meeting, all tied to the district's 2025 bond plan. This moves forward with major upgrades at multiple campuses.
All construction-related items passed unanimously as part of the board's action agenda.
The gist
The board approved a design and construction contract with engineering firm Arcadis for renovations at several campuses, totaling about $2.52 million.
Projects will include upgrades to multipurpose and teaching spaces at Fannin, Jones and Navarro elementary schools, as well as Long and Rayburn intermediate schools.
Deputy Superintendent Brian Merrell said this work will focus on modernizing learning environments through renovations and restorations. He said most of the rooms in use now are original to the building and they should be brought up to standard.

The multipurpose room renovation is one of multiple approved renovation projects across the district.
These agenda items were not discussed at length during the April 20 meeting because they had previously been examined earlier on.

Trustees also approved replacing a boiler at Neal Elementary by using remaining 2020 bond funds. The district awarded a $125,585 contract to Willibanks for the project.
Merrell clarified that it is worth replacing rather than repairing the boiler at $68,574: "We don't believe that would be a valid, long-term solution."
A district official announced to the board that boilers typically last 12-15 years, though the campus system allows individual units to be replaced without shutting down operations.
