Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation are planning major lane closures at the Loop 610 and I-69 interchange over the March 1 weekend as crews work on a yearslong ramp installation project.

The details

Closures include:
  • All northbound Loop 610 West main lanes at I-69, from 9 p.m. March 1 to 5 a.m. March 4
  • Two southbound Loop 610 West main lanes at I-69, from 9 p.m. March 1 to 5 a.m. March 4
  • Both I-69 northbound exit ramps to northbound and southbound Loop 610 West, from 9 p.m. March 1 to 5 a.m. March 4
During the closure, crews will work to open a second northbound I-69 lane connecting to northbound Loop 610 West, according to a Feb. 29 TxDOT news release.

What else

More information about closures and upcoming work can be found on the project website. More information about lane closures around Houston can be found on Houston TranStar.

TxDOT officials said drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes. Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

A look back

The $259 million project involves the demolition of all one-lane connector ramps between I-69 and Loop 610, and the building of two-lane connector ramps in their place. Officials said it will improve safety and mobility at the interchange by reducing congestion, increasing sight distances and mitigating weaving, a term describing when drivers quickly move back and forth between lanes.

The project is slated for completion in late 2024, later than past estimates suggesting it could be done by mid-2024.
