A portion of I-69 at the southwest corner of Loop 610 will be fully closed in Houston starting late July 21 and running through the morning of July 24, officials with the Texas Department of Transportation announced in a July 20 news release.

The closure is part of an ongoing effort by TxDOT to build new, wider connector ramps between the two highways. Over the weekend, crews will continue work to demolish the old Loop 610 northbound bridge over I-69, among other tasks, according to the release.

The full list of closures taking place at the intersection this weekend includes:
  • All northbound and southbound main lanes of I-69 at Loop 610 West will be closed from 8 a.m. Friday, July 21, through 5 a.m. Monday, July 24.
  • The I-69 northbound connector ramp to northbound Loop 610 West will be closed from 8 a.m. Friday, July 21, through 5 a.m. Monday, July 24.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control, but TxDOT officials said drivers may want to find alternative routes.

The broader $259 million TxDOT effort is being carried out to improve safety and mobility at the interchange. By widening the ramps, officials said they intend to also increase sight distances and mitigate weaving, or when drivers quickly move back and forth between lanes.
