Southwest Freeway, between I-610 West Loop and South Rice Avenue, will be closed between Friday, March 5 at 9 p.m. and Monday, March 8 at 5 a.m.

The stretch of highway will be closed as crews work to demolish the old I-610 West Loop northbound connector ramp to I-69 Southwest Freeway southbound as well as the old I-610 West Loop southbound connector ramp to IH 69 Southwest Freeway northbound, both of which span over the main lanes of I-69 Southwest Freeway, the Texas Department of Transportation announced March 3.

The new I-610 West Loop northbound connector to I-69 Southwest Freeway southbound will open later this week.

Motorists should expect delays throughout the weekend. Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

The work from crews is part of the $259 million I-69/I-610 interchange project, which seeks to significantly enhance safety and improve mobility by widening the connector ramps to two lanes, increasing sight distances and providing remedies to eliminate weaving.
