With Thanksgiving coming up Nov. 24 and other seasonal holidays following, several local organizations in Houston and Montrose are hosting food drives and distribution events in the coming days and weeks.

University of St. Thomas

The Montrose-based liberal arts university is hosting a mobile food distribution event Nov. 18 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. or until food packages run out. The event, run in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, will take place at the university campus at 1100 W. Main St., Houston. During the event, those in need will be able to line up in their cars to pick up packages containing various food items, including turkeys and hens. Learn more here.

City of Houston and Gatsby's Hospitality Group

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner is partnering with the local Gatsby's Hospitality Group to distribute 500 turkeys to Houstonians in need starting at 11 a.m. Nov. 21. Participants will be directed through a drive-thru line at Gatsby's Prime Seafood in Montrose at 1212 Waugh Drive, Houston. Turkeys will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis with a one turkey limit per car. Gatsby's owner Luis Rangel said he was inspired to host the event to show his appreciation for the city.

Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce

The chamber is preparing to host its third annual food drive to support LGBTQ-plus seniors in Houston. The food drive will take place Dec. 2 at three locations throughout the day, during which time officials will collect food from donors.

From 8-10 a.m., the drive will be held at The Montrose Center, 401 Branard St., Houston. From noon-2 p.m., it will be held at Buddy's, 2409 Grant St., Houston. From 4-6 p.m., it will be held at Eureka Heights Brewing, 941 W. 18th St., Houston.
