A new, teen health clinic that is slated to open this fall will offer free and low-cost health services for teens and young adults in need, ages 13-24. Harris County commissioners voted unanimously in favor of the teen clinic at an Aug. 27 court meeting.

The cost

Baylor College of Medicine is partnering with the county to establish the teen health clinic at Bayland Community Center, which is located in the Gulfton neighborhood in southwest Houston. Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones said funding for the initiative for its first year will come from grants, then later sustained by Baylor College of Medicine, according to Briones.

"[Baylor] wants to expand this service to Precinct 4. In future years, this will be at no cost to the county. To be able to get this no-cost care at the level of excellence that Baylor College of Medicine will deliver in our community, bringing high-quality care and opening that access in our community center, it energizes me and reminds me of the power of partnerships," Briones said.
