The 60,000-square-foot CTMC—located in the Life Science Plaza at 2130 W. Holcombe Blvd., Houston—was launched by MD Anderson and Resilience last June with the goal of accelerating the development of innovating cell therapies for patients with cancer. More than 80 employees work at the center, according to a March 21 press announcement.
At the time of the opening, CTMC CEO Jason Bock said the venture sought to overcome “structural challenges” related to getting new therapies to cancer patients in clinical settings. Since then, the center has helped provide clinical trial resources and manufacturing capabilities to attract startups and biopharmaceutical companies to Houston, officials said.
The expansion, which will be celebrated during a March 30 ribbon-cutting, will add four large cleanrooms—specific types of rooms that must meet certain standards for air changes per hour and ceiling coverage—totaling 2,659 square feet of space. Other renovations include a new material management room, gowning and degowning rooms, an equipment room, and a controlled-rate freezer room.
